Everyone's been using essential oils lately and understandably so. There are so many benefits involved with using them.

Applying the oils on the skin topically is one of the most common and useful ways essential oils are used. What most people don't know is most, if not all, essential oils are too strong to be applied to the skin directly. So it is highly recommended that you use a carrier oil when applying essential oils to your hair, skin, and/or nails.

Here's our list of 8 different carrier/base oils that you can use with your essential oils.

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a thick consistency and its own aroma. It ialso contains anti-inflammatory properties and is a good healer for the skin.

2. Macadamia Oil

Macadamia oil has wonderful emollient qualities and works well with dry, matured aged skin.

3. Almond Oil

Almond oil is a great source of vitamin E (which is wonderful for the skin) and it doesn't have a heavy aroma. This base oil is also light in weight; so it would be great for massages.

4. Avocado Oil

Avocado oil, on the other hand, is a heavier oil filled with lots of vitamin E and fatty acids. Those same fatty acids are great for moisturizing the skin.

5. Olive Oil

Olive oil absorbs into the skin quite rapidly. It is also known for protecting the skin from harmful UV rays. (Please consult with your doctor before trying to switch sunscreens.)

6. Wheatgerm Oil

Wheatgerm oil, also like the many other oils listed, has a high amount of vitamin E in it. It's heavy and has a strong aroma. This oil along with all of its fatty acids is good for stabilizing many essential oils; giving them a longer shelf life.

7. Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is easily absorbed in to the skin. It has been known to promote hair growth and even lighten scars.

8. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has more of a waxy like consistency and is fine (think of collagen) because of this, it is not very heavy on the skin or hair. Plus, this oil in particular not only has E vitamins but also a number of B vitamins.
